Vineyard is the first Hawkesbury Valley locality that you
come to when travelling along the Windsor Road from Sydney.
Set in the low hills that surround the Valley, Vineyard over
looks the flat lands that follow the winding path of the
Hawkesbury River, past the township of Windsor, to the
Mountains.
The area was named Vineyard as this was the area chosen to
grow Grapes, for wine production, by the early settlers in
the colony of Sydney. History tells us that the Grape crops
failed, as the varieties chosen were not suitable for the
Australian Climate, and the grapes soon rotted on the vines.
Vineyard today consists mainly of small farms, the average
size of which is about 2 to 5 hectares, and enjoys a simple
rural atmosphere.
The Richmond rail line passes through Vineyard with electric
trains travelling to Sydney and the International Airport.
Vineyard offers the traveller a relaxed stay in B & B
accommodation, close to the the town of Windsor, and the
historic places of interest that are situated in the
Hawkesbury Valley.
